The U.S. Forest Service, according to several recent news reports, recently began cracking down on campers who don't follow the rules.
On recent weekends 20 warnings and 30 citations, on average, have been issued.
The emphasis is on protecting caves and cliff overhangs. Visitors have also cut down trees for firewood, trampled trails and set up camp sites in sensitive vegetation areas.
The Forest Service is in the middle of a of multi-year effort to write new rules and regulations for the Daniel Boone National Forest. More than 5 million visitors per year visit the forest and the Forest Service hopes that as many as possible will follow the "Leave No Trace" principles.

Bout time, it's been a long time coming. I'm happy to see that they are using some of the funds from the permits for constructive management and regulation enforcement.
