The Hoosier Mountain Bike Association is hosting their fourth annual Brown County Breakdown fundraiser/bike ride the weekend of Oct. 11 & 12.
Almost 250 riders have already pre-registered and shelled out $65 for the weekend's events, which includes mountain bike rides of up to 100 miles.
It's amazing the success the HMBA has enjoyed over the last several years. Remember it was only a few years back that IMBA voted the state a "D" on their annual report card. That may have been what lit the fire across the river and started HMBA towards unprecedented trail building and record membership levels.
On the opening page of the well-loved HMBA site, one can't help to notice the $250K RTP grant (on top of an earlier $150K grant used at Brown County) received by the group. It's the RTP grants, available to any volunteer group, that's the engine for HMBA's success.
It's a shame that our KY group (if you can still find the rarely used website) which claims to represents mountain bikers best interests, will not go anywhere near an RTP grant, in order to appease our local parks department.
Let's hope that the future brings effective leadership and KY once again regains the lost momentum and enjoys the same success as our neighbors.
