Yesterday’s Race to the Canal (formerly known as the Bald Eagle Challenge) was a very well attended (and challenging) point to point race at the LBL.
I overheard talk that approximately 180 riders were entered, but we’ll have to wait for the official scoring (more on that in a minute) to get the exact count.
Near perfect weather and trail conditions made the race very enjoyable. Fortunately most of the trees were still holding onto their leaves, with very few covering the trail.
Shortened somewhat from years past, racers nonetheless got their money’s worth (Experts covered 37 miles, Sport 25 & Beginners 14). Payout also extended all the way down to Sport, Clydesdale and Single-Speed at 50%. For Pro’s and Junior X payout was a full 100%.
Due to an unfortunate glitch in the scoring official results were still not available a full two hours after racing concluded.
I heard someone also mention that it was the finals of our state race championship series, but there was no information available in regards to individual standings, results, etc.
The only drawback is the long (3 hr. plus) drive time to and from Louisville.
