Just wondering how many like me are out there...err, I mean on here?
I'm a non car-owning, year-round commuter. I love it and hate it almost every day. And I love to hate things, so it is really a win-win.

How about a poll?
I just made a new poll about commuting for you.
just picked up my commuter bike
i was a little hesitant this spring/summer/fall to ride my road bike and leave it outside (work by a high traffic area). I decided to pick up an affordable commuter this year. Just got it today. I'm gonna try the fixed gear for a while and see how i like it. Of course i'm not a full fledged commuter like wes, so it will wait until spring rolls around ;) http://www.raleighusa.com/items.asp?deptid=5&itemid=349
Fixies are cool
My commuter is a fixie. I took a Surly Karate Monkey, added panniers (one side garment, the other computer bag), and run the SS wheel reversed with a 6 bolt ISO-disc cog. Yes, you read that right. It has no rear bike. I'm gonna switch out the current On-One version of a Dirt Drop bar for some moustache bars as the bike is not that comfortable as it's currently set up. Gearing is 42x16. With the current heft of the bike, that is still a bit hard. I have a 36t chainring I might try. I have a front fender that works well, but fabbing up a rear one will be more difficult.
