The LBC is hosting the George "Chips" Cronen memorial ride this Sunday in honor of the cyclist who was killed in a crash on the George Rogers Clark (2nd street) bridge on July 3rd.
The ride starts at 2pm at the Great Lawn, and will cross over to the IN side and back. Distance is only 3.3 miles. Our Mayor and Andy Clarke, ex. director of the Lg. of American Bicyclists will speak.
Note- Mr. Clarke is one of the individuals I communicated with in order to get the LAB to change their Bike Friendly application so mountain bikers wouldn't be shut out, which is exactly what happened here back in 2005. If you should happen to cross paths with Mr. Clarke, please extend a thank you for his efforts, and remind that much, much more needs to be done for off-road cyclists here in the River City.
Free t-shirts will be available to the first 1,000 riders, starting at 1pm, and for those interested in some additional mileage, the LBC will have an informal ride out to Utica and back (about 30 miles) after the ceremony.
