Bridge “Number Four” in Cherokee Park is back in the news.
Bridge Four is the old concrete columned bridge that was damaged by a car a little over one year ago. Shortly thereafter, vandals finished the job by knocking the balance of the concrete spindles/balusters in the water.
Metro Parks (described by some as our very “generous” mountain bike supporters) has been telling everyone within earshot about the circumstantial evidence that “clearly” points to mountain bikers as being the culprits who damaged the bridge (the damage estimate is over $250K!). A week or so before the bridge was damaged we went into Cherokee Park and removed a series of dirt mounds (jumps) per Metro Parks request. Since this made the users/builders of the mounds so upset, they naturally took their anger out on the bridge, or at least that’s how the story goes when Metro Parks tells it, and they’re the ones who have access to our elected officials.
It’s ironic that Metro Parks was so concerned about a bridge installed by a mountain biker on the Wilderness Loop that they actually sent a letter to all of our Metro Council members informing them about the possibility of a lawsuit if someone was injured on the bridge. Yet here we are with a bridge in a very dangerous condition, that offers little to no protection to keep someone from falling into the creek below, and it’s been that way for over one year! (I doubt if Metro Parks has sent a letter to our Metro Council informing them that the city would be responsible if someone is injured due to the dangerous condition that exists on the bridge.)
The local TV station that did the short feature also pointed out that Metro Parks & Olmsted Conservancy have teamed together and offered up a $6,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest/conviction of those responsible.
WOW! I thought you were over
WOW! I thought you were over your bitterness. At this point I'm thinking the only thing to help is for you to seek professional therapy. I am E-Mailing a couple good doctors names.

Wow, another courageous
Wow, another courageous anonymous post . . . this ranks right up there with the wimpy mama’s-boy non-invite issued to a rider down in Eastern KY (I think I see a strong connection here).
Mountain bikers should be outraged that Metro Parks was sullying our reputation with another mean-spirited low-class attempt to put us in a bad light.
Nonetheless, if you wish to continue be Metro Parks obedient-boy who defends their often times inexcusable behavior . . . . than by all means do so :-) since you have little else to show for your efforts.
Speaking of RX suggestions, how’s about a healthy dose of testosterone so you can get up enough nerve to post using your real name?
HAHAHA ........... Your a
HAHAHA ...........
Your a Dumb Ass!
So Don was this speculation
So Don was this speculation in the papers, website, or on tv. You say everyone within earshot but no one has ever relayed the story to me.
So do you think that afterall the trail work is done in Cherokee that the olmstead/metro parks is going to turn around and close it off to MTBs. Wouldn't shock me one bit
Sean, I first became aware
Sean, I first became aware of Metro Parks guilt-by-association story during the Mayor's Night Out public meeting series that was held in the Fairdale gym last year.
Of course they're not going to put anything like that in writing, as they have no proof. The whole point was to tarnish our reputation. You'll also have to place it in context. Metro Parks, for the first time ever, was feeling some real heat at that time from local mountain bikers, over all of the trail closures, dirty dealings and lack of access we had experienced over the years.
I think parks realizes at this point, that there would be such a public outcry from the very loyal off-road group at Cherokee, that closing it at this time isn't feasible (we pretty much put that to rest when we dealt directly with our elected officials on that issue).
It's entirely possible, once they get the Floyd's Fork project up and going (we're taking years here) that they could open up those trails to mountain biking, and close off the ones in Cherokee. Especially if they get a lot of user conflict complaints when the entire loop is opened up at Cherokee.
i love it how things keep
i love it how things keep getting brought up. The non-invite comments are personal attacts on a person that probably doesn't even read this board. I understand personal issues but why call others out in an open forum. TO EVERYONE READING THIS THREAD, PLEASE READ WHAT SCOTT PUT AT THE BOTTOM. With that being said, now that the bridge issue is out in the news hopefully it will get fixed. IT got broke by a car, why didn't the insurance money fix it. Was it not turned in originally?
Equal Opportunity
Equal Opportunity Chastising
Dear MTB, please comment on the subject matter in the threads so I don’t have to continue calling you out for your cowardly & childish antics.
My apologies that I don’t look up to parks nor will I sell out and support parks Elitist Trail policies (like you do).
You’ll feel better once you contact your momma and have her buy you yet another light-weight racer, so you can resume your stellar (3rd place when your lucky) racing career.
But you’ll feel the best once you grow a pair and start posting using your real name :-)
That bridge being unsafely
That bridge being unsafely messed up for over a year is crazy.... :( Not surprising though....

MTB, thanks for proving my
MTB, thanks for proving my point that you're lacking in testosterone. Your "continues to build walls" is overly subjective (actually rather feminine) and shows you're not willing to take a principled stand for our sport. Therefore, the synthetic steroid Testim 1% is for you. Please be patient with its effects, it will take many months to raise your testosterone levels up to normal.
Furthermore, if asked by our elected officials about the local off-road cycling scene, would you still describe Metro Parks as "overly generous"?
Why do you support parks policy of not allowing us access to our public trails?
Please focus your energies on gaining additional access to our public lands, as opposed to being buddies w/Metro Parks and supporting every action they take.
Thanks again for thinking
Thanks again for thinking about me Don. We are really trying to pull all of this shit back together and would be much better off without your antics. It seems every time you post We start getting calls from Metro Parks and cycling enthusiasts. Wouldn't you be much better served trying to pursue funding rather than bitching about how you are still being blamed for everything, or why someone doesn't post there name?. As far as your personal issue with me ... well, enough said.
The original MTB
The original MTB “girlie-man” is back w/another courageous (testosterone lacking) anonymous post.
Dear MTB Coward, just look at what the city is doing for road riders versus what Metro Parks is doing for mountain bikers (quite a difference, wouldn’t you agree).
Parks kicked us out of Jefferson Memorial Forest (your comments?), Iroquois Park (comments?) and almost did the same at Cherokee. They came very close to ruining the trail system at Waverly w/a Frisbee Golf Course, and have repeatedly did everything in their power to intentionally frustrate our efforts.
Why do equestrians have access to part, or all, of every major trail system here in Jefferson County (10,000+ acres) and we only have access to two trail systems on about 300 acres? When are you going to muster the nerve to speak out about these blatant Elitist Trail policies?
Speaking of funding, remember the $24K RTP I secured, of which over $12K went into KyMBA’s bank account? Metro Parks opposed my efforts to submit the grant, and I had to secure permission from the then city of Louisville’s finance department.
Why didn’t you submit an RTP to benefit the club this year? I brokered a deal with one of our Metro Council members to support the club submitting an RTP, and you dropped the ball! Why are you focusing exclusively on pleasing parks (the people who’ve been opposing our efforts over the years) versus doing what’s right for local mountain bikers?
Please remember that I sit on the RTP board in Frankfort, in 2005 the Younger’s Creek project, submitted by the good people of the CKW, wasn’t slated to be funded. Due to the efforts of April Haight and myself, their RTP was funded to the tune of $34,357.
In addition, whatever happened to the $10K grant that I secured from our Metro Council for the trail system at Waverly (that Metro Parks repeatedly tried to misappropriate)?
Here’s hoping you finally open your eyes and realize that you’ve been duped. Metro Parks is using you for their own needs, not the needs of mountain bikers.
