Hot off the Morehead Press only @ bikekentucky

Yesterday was a normal day for myself. I get up and go to work until my girlfriend comes in and tells me that she has spotted my bike at Buffalo Wild Wings. Her mom's car broke down so she had to take her car home and her mom gave her a ride back. They decided to eat at B-Dubs as most people call it and was there before the store opened when she saw someone ride up on it. Jessica, the girlfriend, being the great detective she is decided to make small talk about the bike while getting a closer look at it. She then drives to the library and gets me to call the cops. I call the police and for some reason they asked me if the serial number that I gave them was the correct one. I was a little confused, but I told them I didn't know the number off the top of my head and the number that I gave them was correct. I get a call once again and they inform me that it was my bike. I go to B-Dubs and my bike is sitting outside with the police. They asked if it looked familiar and I said just a little. It was then impounded and I had to bring another copy of my serial number to them, which I thought was stupid, but they looked at it and then called the bike shop, where I got the number, to confirm that they gave me the proper number. So after a lot of hassle and waiting I eventually got my bike back. I honestly can't believe that it was found and nothing is missing. My pedals are still on it, frame pump, cat eye, and everything. The only thing that was missing is the hex wrenches that were in the seat bag. I took it out for a spin on Caney Loop, which is absolutely amazing condition, and got a flat yesterday. I have no clue how I got a puncture that the slime couldn't fix. That was the first time that has happened. Josh who was riding behind me saw a smooth rock give me the puncture. It was one in a million. If it was a snakebite I could understand, but it was one small hole. We got the flat changed and when we returned to the car, at the edge of dark, I heard some people in the water talking, "are you okay" and a reply "no" with someone breathing extremely hard. I think to myself someone is ready to drown. So I tell Josh and we ride down to the water. A girl swimmed out to the buoy (sp) and got extremely tired on the way back. I spotted her in the water and was afraid that I was going to have to try to save her life, but she made it back to shore. Overall, yesterday was exciting from beginning to end. I honestly can't believe I have gotten my bike back. It is even more amazing that Jessica was in the right place at the right time. My friends and I have determined that she is a pretty good detective and I had better stay in line or get rid of her now, but I don't see myself going with the second option.

I was thinking about selling the Yukon and still purchasing the Jamis. I have gotten a pretty good price on it and if I sell the Yukon and add a little bit of money I can get a really nice bike with some great components. What do you think? Getting the Jamis and keeping the Yukon isn't really an option right now. I'll return your bike at the shop soon Jim and post on here when I do. I would like to ride it while the girlfriend rides the Yukon if that's okay.

Great news! You not only

Great news! You not only get your bike back, but you've had an opportunity to ride a couple of others in the interim.

Glad to hear the thief didn't stop by the local Dollar store and apply one of those horrible spray-over-everything paint jobs!

Riding the other bikes have

Rod's picture

Riding the other bikes have spoiled me. The Yukon doesn't perform as well as Jim's Zaskar or Reeder's Jamis so I'm a little spoiled wanting an upgrade. If I can find a buyer for my bike I'll upgrade right away, but if not I'll be fine until I can save up or find someone needing a good used mountain bike. I now have more knowledge when it comes to figuring out what parts I do and do not want on a bike. I'm also extremely greatful that my bike didn't receive a new paint job. The girlfriend and I are also going riding today. She enjoys the Yukon since it doesn't put the rider in the racing position.

Great news Rod! Glad to hear

Great news Rod! Glad to hear someone had some good luck getting something back from a theif.

I completely forgot to

Rod's picture

I completely forgot to mention they had the person's photo, who was in possession of my bike, on the desk when I came to get my bike out of impound. I know the guy! He's well known around campus and I have played basketball with him. We know each other on a first name basis. He calls me "Rob" instead of Rod, I'm not sure how he got my name mixed up, but I can't picture him stealing a bike, but I also don't know him well at all. He said he got it from a friend who knew he didn't have a license and was walking to work. He gave the name of the other person, which they didn't blurt out while I was there, but the other person had more bikes. Now they believe the person he got the bike from has stolen the other missing bikes on campus. Whoever took my bike had balls to use a pair of bolt cutters in front of the library's main entrance between 12 and 3 pm. I know campus wasn't that crowded then, but I can see the bike rack from an area inside the library.

Jim I'm going to take your bike out to the shop today. Just stop by and pick it up whenever. I got a new tube for it. I couldn't air up the tire when the shop was closed so a new tube was a must. I've decided that the girlfriend needs a WSD bike. The Yukon was comfortable before, but she didn't ride it as far.

i hate theives. It doesn't

i hate theives. It doesn't supprise me at all about the bolt cutters though. I'm sure most of you have seen on u-tube or elsewhere where the guys in new york are going around cutting locks. A cop actually rolls up and gives instructions on how to get through it easier. Their using grinders and throwing sparks everywhere and people just walk on by.

I haven't seen that, but I

I haven't seen that, but I can definitely believe it. When I thought the girl was going to drown the other night people were just standing on the bank like nothing was going on. Nobody offered to move their car to shine lights on the water or was even concerned. I can't understand why someone would look away from situatiotions like the ones we described. Someone told me about an old man getting pinned between cars and beaten while people across the street just watched.

I will get out to the bike

I will get out to the bike shop about 5:30 or 6ish today. Just wanted to let you know so you wouldn't be out there too early to get your bike. Thanks again for loaning it to me.

I looked it up after your post Nick. It does make you sick how nobody even cares.

Jim your bike is at the shop. If you want to go riding sometime let me know.

Great news Rod, glad to hear

Great news Rod, glad to hear you got your bike back. Its rare that a stolen bike is recovered and even then in great condition.

The front wheel may be just

Rod's picture

The front wheel may be just a little warped, but it may just be the tire. I believe it's just the tire, but the bike came back almost just the way it was when it got stolen. There were 2 small marks in the seat. My guess is someone wrecked. Those are minor as compared to what could have happened.

Checked the wheel and it's

Checked the wheel and it's not out of true.
