Kudos to Mayor Jerry Abramson for the recently announced Champions Park!
The park would consist of 34 fields for soccer and other sports as part of a River Road recreation corridor.
Also included in the plan is a cyclocross track. Hats off to the cyclocross community for working with our local sports commission to bring the U.S. Gran Prix of Cyclocross to town later this year.
It was also noted that the cyclocross community will help to raise money for the development.
Cyclocross is being touted as a rapid growth sport and let’s hope that this track is just the first of several here in the area.
I think it's also interesting that Metro Parks isn't calling Cyclocross "too new of a sport" which was one of their lame excuses when dealing with mountain bikes. The more eyes and ears involved in the process, the less likely parks will be able to offer up nonsensical excuses for excluding/banning certain groups, such as mountain bikers.
