i wonder why shimano isn't
i wonder why shimano isn't going over to the straight pull type of rear der. Kind of like sram where you don't have that huge cable housing loop to create drag. is that concept some sort of sram patent?

That new XT Shadow rear derailleur looks to have its own loopless housing deal going on. Check out how the housing will barely have to curve downward at the back of the derailleur:
