Egg beaters

I am a little late getting on the Egg beater wagon. And that hesitance seems to have been well placed. I have had them now for about 2 season, and I have been about the most frustrating experience I have ever had. These pedals seem to have it in for me. And have caused me more than one slow speed crash.

So what gives! has anyone else tried and trashed the egg beaters?

Egg beaters are the only

Egg beaters are the only clipless pedals I have ever used and I love them. Do you have the cleats turned around so that they are easier to get out of? Unfortunately, slow speed crashes is one of the downfalls of any clipless pedals.

I'll echo ephillips'

I'll echo ephillips' comments on the eggbeaters...take some time, turn the cleats around and practice the old in-out, in-out. I drank the kool-aid and I can't think of any pedal that can match the easy hook-ups in any condition. The only downside is if you need to make a quick run to the local quickie mart for some barley pops or other household necessities. Good luck and embrace the simplicity.

I've heard plenty of good

I've heard plenty of good things about the egg beaters, and you'll see them on plenty of bikes of all level of riders.

About 3 years ago, during a "time trial" on the wilderness loop, the end c-clip (maybe) came off of one the riders pedals and he ended up w/a large gash on his leg from an exposed pedal axle. Not sure if this was a fluke, or a design issue that's been addressed, but it did damper my enthusiasm for the pedal, as I'd never seen a similar incident from a Shimano pedal.

i too have seen that clip

i too have seen that clip break and the pedal come off. Luckily it happend to the rider in the parking lot before we took off. I was told they where redesigned since that issue and also are rebuildable if it does happen anyway. But i don't think i'll get a set anytime soon.

This statement is very true. The guy who runs the lbs recommended them to me and he uses them himself. I have had egg beaters for almost a season and a half now and I have the same problem with slow speed crashes. On my last ride at Buckskin I spun out and down I went. It's extremely frustrating. Look at the clips on your shoes and the one with the two dots should go on the right shoe for a faster release. I also that noticed that just riding helps a lot. I can clip out faster this season as compared to last.

I jumped on eggs w/ three

I jumped on eggs w/ three pairs.

I now have zero pairs of egg petals.

I personally experienced the "c" clip breakage mentioned herein. I witnessed it twice in person before it happened to me.

Since I never got rid of the Time pedals I had been using, I just switched back to Time pedals on all three bikes. I love Time pedals.

But all that said, I think my experience was with the first season egg beaters. I understand Crank Bros. has fixed the clip breaking issue. Most egg beater riders I know love them. I liked them just fine until mine broke.

I've never tried egg

I've never tried egg beaters. Been riding Times for many years. The set on my hardtail is over 13 years old and are still working great. When I get a new bike the first thing I do is take whatever pedals that come on them off and put Times on. Guess I like Times :-)

The only pedal I've ever

The only pedal I've ever used is the Candy C (egg beater with a small cage around them) and I've had no problems at all. Been using them for about 3 yrs. I really like them.

I will double check the 2

I will double check the 2 dots to make sure its on the correct side. I thought I had them right but perhaps I got myself confused

Alright do that. I didn't

Alright do that. I didn't even know about the 2 dots on the cleat until recently. I just got lucky and them together correctly.

many thanks to all that

many thanks to all that responded. I was at Waverly Park the other day and after yet another slow speed tip over I had it! I checked and found the double dots on the right side. But decided to turn them around.....and WOW what difference!!! I am in and out with little or not effort.

I remember reading the instructions when I installed them and it seemed like I selected the quickest release option. But I guess I chose the more difficult setup by accident....lesson learned!

Whenever I get a new set of

Whenever I get a new set of egg beaters I need to turn my cleat around. I had a slow speed crash on Sunday and landed on some rocks. It was extremely aggravating.
