Great to hear that a Bike Patrol will be established in Lou's. 4th district in the near future.
The 4th district runs from 7th & Broadway all the way out to Iroquois Park. With more police officers on bikes, it will only serve to help all cyclists, especially on-road recreationists and commuters.
The LBC has rec'd. one (or possibly two) $10K bike education contracts from the city. Since the Police Department will be using "mountain" bikes, maybe we could make a pitch for our own little educational project. If police ever have to chase down a suspect, and they need to jump some curbs, hop some debris, they certainly won't know how to do so from attending a road cycling class.
LMPD 4th Div. Bike Patrol
Bike patrols are a good thing. Much more mobile/stealth mode than a deep sounding low rpm idling Ford Crown Victoria rolling through a neighborhood....
Imagine how many doughnuts could be stacked on a set of big Avenir bar ends???? There are some fine insulated bottles for keeping coffee warm too.... :)

As Czar mentioned bikes are stealthy. We have a Campus police officer that rides a bike and his ride is complete stealth. Our bikes make a clicking sound when we're coasting and his doesn't. He's caught several people by just sneaking up on them at night.
