No place to vote for 8? Though I guess it's getting harder to obtain parts and all, if possible, I'm staying with eight-but as slow as I am and as infrequent as I get to ride, I probably wouldn't notice the difference anyway!
I have been coming to the conclusion that it really does not matter how many gears you have. The only thing that really matters is to have at least a chain ring, cog and a chain. The rest is all good!
I have fun on my 9spd mtb.
I have fun on my 8spd road bike.
I have a blast on my SS mtb.
and I am sure that I would have fun on a coaster brake bike with a beer basket too.
I think part of it is my SS and the way it helps me look at riding. When one is racing all the time they worry about everything being perfect, heart rates and speed per mile and not the ride.
Any more I am happy just to be riding. I took riding for granted and then stopped for a few years. I sure am glad for the time I can ride no matter what bike I am on or where I am riding.
