What tires are you rolling on???? I've just got one MTB and it's rolling on Maxxis Larsen TT 26x2.0 70a durometer tubed version tires. The tightly spaced little ramped knobbies roll fast, corner good and have just enough grip on most climbs but don't grip all that great on steep climbs with a bit of loose surface. I like these tires a lot....
mountain bike tires
I have the original tires that came on my giant. Kenda Blue Groove in front and Kenda Nevagal on the rear. These tires do good in dry conditions, but they're horrible if its wet. If its wet they randomly break loose. I've almost crashed 4 times in one day because of this. Some how I unclipped in time to catch myself. Earlier this year when I rode Lakeview these tires were doing great in the dry conditions until I went through a small water bar, that was damp, in a curve. They broke free and I almost crashed. In dry conditions these tires are fantastic and have saved me numerous times, but in wet conditions its a different story.
Panracer
Firexcpro
Been riding them for 12+ years. Maybe they are just that damn good or maybe I'm just to stubborn to change. Don't know which.
Hey i did go tubeless. That was a big step. Tubeless firexcpros :-)
Maxxis
Ignitors 2.35...they came on my prophet, had to replace the rear and found a good deal on one...it has the folding bead and is a lot lighter than the original, but it has the exxon something compound which is soft and sticky...it feels like riding in sand, I plan on swapping it to the front to see if that is any better....
huchison spiders for winter
huchison spiders for winter tires (hook up great and are heavy for training)
fire xcpro for a little wet conditions
larsten tt for super hard pack dry conditions
kenda karmas for a mix of loose dry stuff.
all in the tubless variety, oh and i just tossed a set of michelin xcr dry's in the trash cause they rip and puncture like no other....fast and light though. Not sure what the new generation (XCRII) will do
tires
Atvsmurf, It's cool how much weight difference there is between different versions of the same tire huh???? Crazy how tire ingredients can differ so much in weight....
I'll share a tip for more wheel related weight savings for tube using riders such as myself. Run 1.5-1.75 tubes instead of the bigger sizes. Less rubber, less weight and do just fine inside bigger tires....
tires
I mostly ride a set of Kenda Krisp tires. They have very low rolling resistance with the knobs on the side for good traction while cornering. They're almost worn out from the road riding that I've done on them. They've been good tires though.

Panaracer
I've got you beat, Boone...I'm was rockin' the Panaracer Smoke+Dart combo up until last fall and had to change out the Smoke for a WTB Velociraptor since my LBS didn't have the Smoke in stock. If it ain't broke, don't fix it and there's nothing like kickin' it Old School!
ahh the good old smoke/dart
ahh the good old smoke/dart combo. That was the good old day's. I always loved running the smoke lites with Air-b tubes for races. Seemed like I was flying compared to my normal rides.
I am running some Continental Gravity 2.3 I am loving them so far!!
I had some Michelin Hot S and Xtreme something before that and these have been holding up much better then the dual compound.

IRC Mythos on my regular bike.
Velociraptor on the single speed.
