Website Changes

I'm considering a few changes in the coming week, nothing drastic at this time but I'm always open to suggestions. I know a few things are off (like photos) and intend to fix them but I'd like to hear any feedback from those currently using the site. If you have a suggestion or something you don't like then please post it hear. I'm happy to try to accommodate anything that sounds reasonable and doesn't require a ton of work to make happen.

ok the text box where you

ok the text box where you type in repies has about 4-5 spaces covered over when using ie 6.0.28

Which is why...

You should be using Firefox :)

Seriously though, I'll take a look at that and see whats up. This theme could have some stuff that IE is just not understanding or liking. Being a Mac user I mainly use Safari for my web browser but I have Parallels installed so I can pop open XP and take a look at how it looks in IE.

not alot of fortune 500

not alot of fortune 500 companies out there using MACs though ;)

Vista is quicking showing its true colors. Many government agencies are putting the brakes on upgrading any time soon. Meanwhile Apple steadily grows and becomes a more viable option. Check out :

Look at the last sentence, that is definitely true and OS X is Unix based. It will take 5 to 10 years but I think things are going to change a lot. I've used and supported Windows PC's for 12+ years. After giving Mac OS X a try in late 2005 I'll never use a PC again. I still have to support them but I'm the IT Director at my company and that is already starting to change.

more problems with IE

If I don't click the reply link then I can't respond. I can type in the subject box, but not in the other box. It's a small problem that I've found a way around, but new people to the site would be frustrated. Also sometimes when I click reply I still can't type a msg and I have to click post and some how after I get an error msg it will work. Also I would like to get the resources link up and working. I have some scanned maps Cave Run that I could post and a couple other things. Thanks

I do so love those mac and

I do so love those mac and PC commercials, they slay me!

I have always felt that PC's have a tough go not so much because the OS is crap, but cause so many people have it in for Bill Gates!

If there were no microsoft, then Steve Jobs would have the bullseye on his back and his OS would be hacked apart. Just my personal opinion, as one who has been dealing with code and script for a mighty long time.

And unix will just make a grown man cry!

I can think of two things:

How about when replying to a topic have the Subject box be automatically filled in with the topic title. I usually put the topic title in to make it easier for people to see that there is posting activity in that topic when they are scanning the Recent Comments for something to read.

The other thing is how about making the Recent Comments section have about 20 or 25 listed?

more recent comments

Rod's picture

i agree with czar. when someone spams the site with "impossible is nothing" i have to look for the topics instead of scanning the recent comments section

Recent Comments

fadeto's picture

Can you change the recent comments to show which topics have been recently updated instead? There could be 15 comments on one thread that will take up all of the list and without visiting each forum topic, you might miss something. Not a critical need, but a creature comfort want. Thanks for your time and effort, Scott!

man what a pain. I logged

man what a pain. I logged in for the 1st time today and then could not get back in till I cleared the cookies and deleted files in IE

it would show me logged in but wouldn't let me reply to any threads.

new topics/ comments

I would vote to get rid of the new comments section. I would rather see the updated topics listed. That way if one topic gets several comments, then you would not see all of those listed at the right.

If I am interested in a topic and it is updated, I will read it. It is not because of what the comment update says.

Just my thought. I think it is too hard to follow topics and see what is updated. Maybe if it was easier there would be more posts.

Signature

Could you seperate the signature from the body of the msg? Most people will probably be wondering why I'm writing this at the bottom of every post.

"If you're going to act stupid you have to be tough."

I'm liking the layout and color scheme. Really easy to find what your looking for.
Thanks for the hard work Scott. Cool site!

I was just pedaling along............

Thanks guys...

I'm also trying to setup an ignore feature to block out users you don't wish to read posts etc. as well as a few other additions.

site is really coming

site is really coming together, still can't see my first few letters when I post a comment. Oh well you folks will just have to understand my typos till Scott gets it fixed

A couple more tweaks have

A couple more tweaks have been done.

1. I removed the need to put in a title when commenting. I'm not sure if this will work over time but now it will use the first bit of text you type as the title of your comment. I've removed the 'recent comments' block because I don't think it was very helpful. Since the comment title is gone it won't hurt the 'recent comments' block since its gone as well.

2. I renamed the 'View' menu choice on the top left to "Recent Posts". This is a big improvement over using the 'recent comments' block (see #1) to view activity. The "Recent Posts" page will show you whats been going on since you last visited as well as any other things you haven't read. Its nice and easily shows you activity on the site.

3. I'm adding a FAQ section and it should be pretty cool. It will allow me to list common Q/A stuff.

I'm not ready to allow anyone in the admin areas of the site yet but I might need help with the FAQ etc. once I get some other stuff figured out. If you would be interested in helping just shoot me an email via my profile.

Thanks!

ps. Oh, Singletrack.net is getting close as well to being ready to use :)
