Garfield Trail in Prestonsburg

Posted in

Anyone know who I could contact about this trail? Last year there were some trees down and I had simple log crossings, but now that someone has cut the trees out of the path 4-wheelers are using it. I would like to get them off the trail before they destroy it. Thanks!

Rod, I visited the

Rod, I visited the prestonburgky.org website and didn't see the trail listed. It may be located within one of the recreation areas listed. I also visited the KY gov. state parks website and didn't see it. So your best bet may be to try the prestonburg site, and see what advice they can provide.

Always good to hear when someone is looking out for the long term conditions of the trail. Best of luck w/trying to get the situation fixed.

I'm going to the bike shop in p-burg tomorrow and ask them about it. They should be able to point me in the right direction. Thanks for your help though Don. I appreciate it.

Don at the shop should know...I would guess it to be the city...It is posted, no motorized vehicles allowed...

Yea I talked to Don and he told me to contact the mayor, but they will probably do nothing. I'm still going to contact the mayor and see what happens. If nothing else I'll make it a singletrack at one spot in the trail as a last resort. The 4-wheelers made some terrible ruts in the trail after the slide. I ditched the water last night so it should dry up soon.

In late 1999 a guy named Randy who rode at the time cleared some trail going up the ridge. It started at a right angle curve next to some graves. It was a cool little offshoot trail....

I know exactly where you're talking about. I thought that was an old 4-wheeler trail. I'll have to ride that trail the next time I'm home. Thanks for the information.

that is the best part of the trail...I would park at the metal bridge and ride up to the grave, then turn right...that section runs back to overlook rt 23 and has some good possibilities...

That sounds great. That will definitely give me something to ride whenever I go home. I usually just made a loop around p-burg on the road. I can't wait to check that trail out now.
