During my many trips to Otter Creek Park, when riding down by the creek, I've spotted many a fisherman, but relatively few fish being reeled in.
A recent CJ article helps to explain the lack success. Nuisance complaints about otters have increased greatly since the state began, back in 1991, releasing otters at various sites around the state.
The otter is a rather voracious fish eater, and many fisherman are reporting scores of dead fish being found alongside creeks inhabited by the otter.
Biologists have estimated that the state otter population could be as high as 16,000. So if you've got a fishing trip planned for a local river or stream, you may wish to go sooner, rather than later, before the otters eat all the fish!
