Please read...Action required Support State Bill 136

Posted in

Hello All...
If you have read any of my posts over the past couple months you have heard me reference a piece of legislation that will allow private landowners to enter into contracts with govt. agencies to allow their land to be used for recreational purposes. In return for entering into the contract the landowner will be "held harmless". Well one part of that legislation is State Bill 136 ( http://www.lrc.ky.gov/record/07rs/SB136.htm ), the other part is a piece of legislation being pushed by Fish and Wildlife. If this legislation passes it will help people throughout the state to negotiate using private land to build MTB Trails. If we can assure people they will have no liability then more people will be willing to let us use their land for trails.
I'm hoping that you will take a moment or two and either call your state officials or set up a face to face meeting (it's your right) to let them know how important this is to all of us.

1. To find General Assembly members: http://www.lrc.ky.gov/whoswho/whoswho.htm
Face-to-face meetings with your legislator are always the best way to show support, but if that’s not possible, phone messages are definitely received and noted.

2. Here is the toll free number to call to let your member of the General Assembly know that you want them to support Senate Bill 136, An Act relating to specify the powers and duties of the Kentucky Recreational Trails Authority.
1-800-372-7181

3. If you would like to let our sponsor know that we appreciate his support on this bill, contact Robert Stivers, who represents Senate District 25 (Morgan, Magoffin, Wolfe, Knox, Owsley, Clay, and Lee)

4. More than likely SB 136 will be brought up first in the Senate Economic Development, Tourism and Labor committee. Below are the members of that committee.

Sen. Alice Forgy Kerr [Chair], Fayette
Sen. Brett Guthrie [Vice Chair], Butler and Warren
Sen. Julian M. Carroll, Anderson, Fayette, Franklin & Woodford
Sen. Julie Denton, Jefferson
Sen. Denise Harper Angel, Jefferson
Sen. Ray S. Jones, Martin, Pike & Johnson
Sen. Jerry P. Rhoads, Muhlenberg, Hopkins, Ohio
Sen. Richie Sanders, Allen, Barren, Edmonson, Green, Metcalfe, Simpson
Sen. Katie Stine, Campbell, Pendleton
Sen. Gary Tapp, Bullitt, Shelby, Spencer
Sen. Jack Westwood, Kenton
Sen. Ken Winters, Calloway, Carlisle, Fulton, Graves, Hickman, Trigg, Lyon

Thank you all for your help, have a great day,
Pat Collins
