Check your mail, I just sent you one.
Gmail
Its probably the best service around if you just use their interface(s). They've got a mobile app you can put on many phones for accessing gmail pretty nicely. If you use any other application (outlook, mail.app, blackberry mailbox) you get copies of your sent messages because Google has a pretty unique server setup and they don't support IMAP.
I've also been playing with Yahoo's new mail system and its very nice but you have to pay a fee for any kind of decent storage or IMAP capability. I also have a .Mac account that is probably my favorite. Supports IMAP and works very well. The new web interface is nice when you are on the road and don't have your computer.
Oh, IMAP for those who don't know is a newer mail protocol (well not that new) and allows for you to access your email from multiple programs etc. and still see everything. In other words your mail stays on the server, you get copies on your machine/phone etc. and then if you read something its marked read on the server, same if you delete...its deleted off the server. If you have a notebook and a desktop and/or travel etc. this is pretty handy having one common view of your email.
Right now I manage to seamlessly juggle quite a few accounts; Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, .Mac, Work (all are scott.cropper@insert service domain here for consistency). This comes in handy at times if I need to IM someone on a different service. I use Adium (http://adiumx.com) which allows me to easily connect to all of them.
One very handy use for Gmail is using it as a Spam Filter. You can actually have other email accounts forward to Gmail and authorize (in your settings) Gmail to send emails from other addresses you use. Gmail will catch a lot of spam that other services miss.
I hope someone finds all that blah blah blah useful :)
I've got numerous invites
I've got numerous invites left if anyone would like one. Scott, have you had much time on Vista? I messed about with it some today, and the interface is nice, but I still think my Macbook is more streamlined and user-friendly. Any thoughts?
Mac OS X
I switched to Mac OS X almost 2 years ago and I'll never go back to using Windows. With Leopard (new Mac OS X update) just around the corner it will put it way ahead of anything Vista offers. Microsoft has been working on Vista for 5 years and a lot of what it offers is already in the current Mac OS X version.
Blog
I didn't want to make a new thread, so i'll just put it in here. I've got my new blog site up...bookmark it and try and swing by daily for some cool cycling and non-cycling related updates!
